The Concert Band Fundraising Ceilidh was a fantastic night and thank you to everyone involved in organising it and thanks to everyone who came along! Overall it was a great success with a raffle, bake sale, live ceilidh music and even some magic. Hope to see everyone again next time!
The last academic year was an eventful one for the band. Under the direction of Masters Conducting student Jack Christie, and 3rd year Music Education student, Ashley Edwards, the band performed two stunning concerts. The first concert was held in St Machar’s Cathedral. The Wind Band programme consisted of wind band classics, including Holst’s Suite in Eb, and Peter Graham's Cry of the Celts. The Concert Band played some more popular pieces, such as a Disney Suite, and the Big Country. In the second semester, the band had the pleasure of playing in the Beach Ballroom, drawing a large audience of over 400 people. The Wind Band played a set of orchestral classics, such as Jupiter and Mars from the Planets Suite, and the finale from Tchaikovsky’s 4th Symphony. The Concert Band set was made up of popular media favourites, including music from Mary Poppins, Phantom of the Opera, and How to Train Your Dragon. The Band is looking forward to another eventful year of playing two exciting concerts. Hope to see you all at the concerts!

'I am the conductor of AUCB – Aberdeen University Concert Band and Wind Band. I am delighted to be back for my fourth year with the band and second year as conductor, it is a delight to work with such enthusiastic musicians. My aim is to make every rehearsal fun and rewarding whilst providing a keen sense of achievement. I am very much looking forward to the exciting year ahead. If you are interested in joining our AUCB family do not hesitate to get in touch.'
'This is my fourth year in the band and as a History student, it’s exciting to be President of such a large university music ensemble in my final year. The Concert Band is a great way for both music students, and non-music students alike, to have fun playing varied repertoire, alongside members of the wider Aberdeen community. An incredibly friendly group of people, the band has gone from strength to strength since I first joined, and we hope to continue that trend this year!'
'I have particularly enjoyed playing in the Aberdeen University Concert Band this year, as it gives experienced and inexperienced players a chance to play challenging, exciting and enjoyable music at the same time. Thus, I am rather looking forward to taking on the role of Vice-President, supporting Rebecca McKinley as President, and making this coming year a success all round. There are some great things planned this year, with concerts and potential workshops lined up, which should be good fun for the whole band. I may only be going into my second year at university, but as the band are so warm and welcoming, I feel as if I have fit right in. I know that this year will be as good, if not better, than last!'
